A funny encampment and funny characters have settled in the village. Their motivations are diverse, and each as strange as the other. Some will meet, others will live the moment. What unites them? The location…

LaboKracBoom is a circus company based in Sherbrooke and founded in 2006 by artists Bruno Gagnon, Simon Durocher-Gosselin, Cyril Assathiany and Elise Legrand. The company develops innovative artistic propositions that integrate circus languages, dance and physical theatre, continuously warding off established codes. Insatiable creators, LaboKracBoom’s artists are constantly on the lookout for new forms of expression that can redefine circus language and broaden its horizons.

Their first creation, Les Chroniques du Laboratoire UniK (street show) which integrates dance, circus and physical theatre on a level that reminds us of cartoon animation and silent films, has been presented more than 200 times between 2006 and 2015 in different festivals and events in Québec, Canada and abroad. Noted among these are the Festival Montréal Complètement Cirque, the Festival d’Été de Québec, the Festival International de Théâtre de rue d’Aurillac in France, the Congrès Mondial Acadien, the Festival Cultural de Mayo à Guadalajara in Mexico as well as the SESC Children Arts Festival in Sao Paolo, Brésil. Since 2008, LaboKracBoom has also developed different concepts for wandering animation on stilts, like BateauKracBoom, Cirkollez and Anamorphose, presented as well in different local and international events. In 2011, LaboKracBoom played with the creation of the show hall version of Les Chroniques du Laboratoire UniK.  This act was awarded the Cirque du Soleil prize for ‘Best original creation’ by different creative residencies of Sherbrooke and New Brunswick. In 2012, the show won La Tohu’s “Coup de Pouce” prize during a presentation at Festival Vue sur la Relève, and was presented at RADARTS et Cerf-Volant tour in Nouveau-Brunswick.

Resident company of Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré de Sherbrooke since 2015, the team creates numerous collaborations and partnerships, as much with member companies of the CASJB, as with other local and non local artists and organizations

In addition to their creation and distribution activities, the company LaboKrakBoom, has also produced the Cabaret Kracbook event biannually since 2010. This evening benefit rapidly made its mark as a Sherbrooke staple, regrouping local and international circus artists, as a contributor to the dynamic cultural Sherbrooke life, and dedicated to making known the circus arts in the Eastern Townships.

LaboKracBoom also develops circus arts initiation workshops as much for school level as recreationally for adults, in different sectors of the Eastern Townships and the maritime provinces.
