A comme Animal (A as Animal)

In a universe in constant transformation, an old man and a wolf cross paths without recognizing each other.

Under the themes of metamorphosis and of time passing, three women saddled with masculine voices and animal heads, borrow a few phrases from the philosopher Gilles Deleuze to guide the audience towards a surreal and playful world. Together, they explore the symbolic and unpredictable of the unconscious. Theater of imagery, A comme Animal unites on stage puppetry, dance and singing.

Visual artist, choreographer and puppeteer, Marie-Pascale Bélanger has always had an interest in artistic interdisciplinarity. Following her studies in visual arts, she obtained her degree from École de danse contemporaine de Montréal as well as a master’s degree in dance at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), and she created several choreographic works. Seduced by the art of puppetry which allies movement and visual arts, she obtained a DESS in contemporary puppetry theater from the UQAM in 2019, and co-founded the collective Les tables tournantes with whom she created the short form Graceland. Fascinated by the relation between bodies and objects, she creates evocative images. The manipulation of objects is for her a dance in itself, a choreography of micro movements. The use of objects on stage allows her to project the bodies of the interpreters in a world as improbable as it is surreal.
