The masks of Commedia dell’Arte represent specific characters. They invite an interplay between the individual who is underneath the mask (the bottom half of the face being exposed), and the “demon” above (the mask covering the top half of the face). The masks invite characters to say or do what daily life does not permit … Masks are freedom!
All the masks presented here were created by Pierangelo Summa (1947-2015), Sara Summa, his daughter, and Robin Summa, his son who is a masksmaker, actor, author and teacher.
