Persephone is an interdisciplinary work where contemporary puppetry draws from visual arts and animated cinema, resulting in an exhibition that brings together masks, costumes, and visual elements from the short film’s creative process. The myth of Persephone tells the story of her journey into Hades’ underworld and the grief of her mother, Demeter, who halts the earth’s fertility in response. This contemporary reinterpretation of the myth is conceived as a palimpsest, blending mythical references with personal mythology to explore a feminine quest for identity and the transmission between mother and daughter. Carried by a hybrid approach to techniques and media, the work features live performers, puppets, masks, and scale models brought to life through live-action or stop-motion, merging theatrical codes with the inventiveness of auteur cinema.
